Happy Poppet-Day!

Amongst the renovation madness I've somehow remembered that Pikelet Workshop is having a birthday.
Four years of Poppets is certainly something to celebrate and you know what that means...

Oh yes indeedy, it's a giveaway!

Here's some Happy Dance inspiration for you...

I'm so excited to still be making Poppets for so many of you wonderful loyal customers and equally excited every time a new name pops up in my inbox asking to place an order! And this year I'll be embarking on so many new projects, not least of which is the teaching. I am really looking forward to it, so thought I'd ask you guys to chime in about the craft you've been aching to try. Tell me more, give me some ideas!

I am going to give this beautiful Mermaid Poppet to one of you lucky kids (big or small) who comments on this blog post. Simply answer one (or both) of the following questions...

  • What craft you've always wanted to learn, if only you had the time/money/motivation/patience?
  • Would you like to purchase Poppet patterns to make yourself or do you prefer ordering them directly from me?

I'll pull a name out of the Random.Org hat in a week's time and announce it right here on the blog.
Postage will be covered by me. Yay!

Best of luck! And don't forget to include your email address so I can contact you if you win!!!

  1. I probably should say quilting as I've got a few quilt tops I've made but I'm to scared to quilt them incase I muck them up.
I'd love to try making a poppet (probably wouldn't be as good as yours but I'd like to give it a go)

  3. If I had more time I would definitely try felting. So amazing.

I'd probably just continue to buy from you. I don't have the time to make them. :) and there is no way they would be as good as yours.

    1. crocheting is quite addictive shayne, you should totally have a go at it. it comes together quite quickly compared to knitting so is very satisfying.

  8. Hi Jen - I love your poppets, especially mermaids and babushkas : ) I have been quilting or the last couple of years but am looking forward to more time in the Fall. But I do admire all things wool so maybe some needlefelting critters in the future too. Congratulations on four years!!

  10. I would love to try smocking although my sewing ability is questionable! As my daughter gets older a poppet sewing project together would be fab (although again sewing ability is questionable!) Michaela.jesson@msc.com

  11. Lets try again Jen :)

Pirate and Superhero are still my favorite.
I follow your blog from the time you were moving from Australia, remember all that posts about packed sewing machine - must be like forever.
And remember you need to give your cats away :'(

Anyway, I would like to learn how to crochet. Maybe one day when kids get bigger.
    Enjoy your new home!

crochet is lovely and lots of fun but it's always so tricky to learn a new craft with littles around...

  12. Hi Jen, Happy Birthday Pikelet Workshop. I am sure you will find teaching very rewarding. I remember you coming along to one of our Sewing nights several years ago with your Poppets. I would love to learn how to knit. I think I need to take some classes as I have tried but failed dismally. Just can't master it - always more or less stitches than I started with. Congrats Jen.

definitely take a class for the knitting, it's so much fun.

  13. Hi Jen xx. Am hoping this works, fingers crossed xx. Happy Birthday Pikelet!! Have been a follower of your amazing creations for such a long time and have always been tempted to purchase one for my little girl but the postage has always been scary..... (My sister bought a doll from the US last year and it cost her $40, yikes)...... Anyway..... I love the idea of a pattern of your Poppets, then I could make an army of them, bwahhhaaaaaa ( that is suppose to be an evil laugh, lol)
I've always wanted to learn how to crochet, love the idea of making softies and dolls and beanies and all those gorgeous things but never seem to find the time to just sit and teach myself...........
Am having so much trouble with this today, arghhhhh!!! Hoping this makes sense. Thanks for the opportunity to win a Poppet (especially a mermaid one as I have a slight obsession with them, lol). Thanks xx

  14. Happy Birthday Jen :-) I have dabbled into many crafts but seem to find it hard to create a space and time to complete projects with little children constantly under my feet and wanting to participate too! Would love to dust off my sewing machine and get stuck into making some very unique (as the sewing would be a bit wonky) cheerful banners for my house and big bright cushions for the play room. Have always wanted to learn how to actually make clothes that look decent too (a pillow case dress is about my skill level!). It is really awesome creating things and I do get a big thrill out of it but at the moment I admire all the handmaidens, like yourself, so happier to buy things direct.

    2. oh those little people getting under our feet. somehow my mother made all of our clothes when we were small with three of us around. don't know how she managed it, i need to concentrate too much. i haven't even made a pillow case dress so well done you!

  15. Let's hope this works second time around...
I live with friends and so don't do long term projects that need leaving out so I'd love to be able to do something huge and time consuming like a quilt or a big scrapbook of print outs of all the digital photos I have.

I would rather buy a poppet than a kit because I don't think I am patient enough!
